AFTERCARE
You should look at your tattoo as an open wound and treat it accordingly. Color and plasma may seep to the surface, especially when first removing the bandage. Many people describe a fresh tattoo as feeling similar to a sunburn. The area tends to sting a bit, and it can be slightly red, swollen and sore. This is all a natural part of the tattoo healing process.
You should avoid submerging your tattoo in any body of water for at least 2 weeks. This includes baths, lakes, pools, hot tubs, or oceans. Stay away from intense sun exposure. Do not apply any sun lotion to the area until it has fully healed.
Keep your bandage on for at least 1 day and up to 5 days. The best way to try removing the film in a warm shower. The warmth will loosen the adhesive and make it easier to remove.
Wash gently with warm water and with gentle fragrance-free soap. Rinse thoroughly, however, do not soak the area. Keep shower time to a minimum. Make sure to wipe with a clean paper towel and reapply ointment. Within a few days to a week, a thin scab should form evenly over the tattoo and peel like a sunburn. DO NO PICK AT IT!
It should be completely healed in 4-6 weeks. Continue to look after your tattoo once healed. Once healed, try to keep your tattoo well protected from the sun (wear SPF) and ensure you continue to moisturize the area regularly. Healthy skin means a healthy-looking tattoo.
Will I need a touch-up after my initial appointment?
Not all fine line tattoos require a touch-up—but many do, especially for tattoos on fingers or hands, where fading happens faster. Touch-ups help sharpen the details and perfect the linework. Because fine line tattoos are more delicate and deposit less ink than traditional tattoos, they often heal softer and may benefit from a follow-up.
After your appointment, Suki will let you know when to send a healed photo (usually around 6–8 weeks later). She’ll help you evaluate whether a touch-up is needed based on how your tattoo has settled.
Do fine line tattoos fade more than traditional tattoos?
All tattoos fade over time and ink naturally migrates—but how you care for them matters most.
Here’s how to protect your ink:
-
Apply SPF on the tattooed area
-
Keep the skin moisturized
-
Choose tattoo placements that are easier to protect from sun and friction
Both fine line and traditional tattoos go into the same layer of skin, but fine line tattoos use thinner needles and deposit less ink. That’s why they can look more subtle or “faded,” even when freshly healed. It’s not lower quality—it’s the minimalist style!
If your tattoo starts looking lighter after a few years, a quick refresh session can bring it right back to life. It is a quick and easy appointment!
