All semi-permanent makeup initial appointments begin with a consultation.
Lip Blush
Lip Blush is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo designed to enhance the natural beauty of your lips — not change them into something they’re not. The goal is to balance lip tone, add soft definition, and restore the look of healthy, naturally flushed lips.
At Suki Studio, I specialize in a soft, natural watercolor lip blush technique often known as Korean lip blush, popsicle lip blush, or lip tint blush. Unlike the bold, opaque “lipstick style” lip tattoos commonly seen in the United States, my approach focuses on color harmony, subtle definition, and timeless results.
The healed result is meant to resemble the look of hydrated, juicy lips — similar to a lip oil or tinted lip balm, rather than a heavy lipstick finish. Your lips will still look like your lips, just healthier, more even, and softly enhanced.
Lip blush can help:
✔ Restore faded or uneven lip color
✔ Softly redefine the lip borders
✔ Create a balanced, harmonious tone
✔ Give the appearance of naturally healthy lips
✔ Reduce the need for daily lipstick or tint
The goal is simple: to look effortlessly put together, even without makeup.

Lip Blush vs. Lip Neutralization
Every set of lips is different. During your consultation, I will assess whether your lips are considered “healthy lips” or if lip neutralization may be recommended first.
Below are some simple guidelines to help you self-assess and get a general idea of how many sessions you may need.
Healthy Lips
If your lips have a relatively even tone without noticeable darker areas or significant color differences between the upper and lower lips, most clients typically need:
• 1 initial session
• 1 follow up session at 5–8 weeks
This allows the pigment to settle evenly and gives us the opportunity to refine the color and shape for the most natural result.
Lip Neutralization
Clients with higher levels of melanin or lips that appear darker, cooler, or uneven in tone may benefit from lip neutralization first.
Lip neutralization focuses on balancing and correcting darker areas before layering the final target color. Rather than adding color immediately, the first sessions are designed to gradually shift the lip tone toward a more even, neutral base.
Most neutralization journeys require:
• 2–3 sessions on average
• 3–5 sessions in some cases, depending on your starting point and desired result
Each session progressively balances the lip tone so that the final lip blush color can heal soft, even, and beautifully natural.
How to Tell if You May Need Lip Neutralization
You may be a candidate for lip neutralization if you notice:
• Your upper lip is significantly darker than your bottom lip
• Your lips have brown, purple, grey, or cool-toned areas
• The borders of your lips appear darker than the center
• Your lips have uneven patches of pigment
If your lips appear soft pink, peach, or evenly toned, you may only need the standard lip blush process.
During your appointment, I will evaluate your lips and recommend the safest and most effective treatment plan to achieve a balanced, natural-looking result.
Choosing Your Lip Color
During your appointment, a custom pigment blend will be created to complement:
• Your natural lip color
• Your skin tone
• Your desired level of enhancement
Your artist, Suki, will walk you through how the custom pigment mix interacts with your natural lip tone to achieve a color that complements your skin tone while staying as close as possible to your desired shade.
Because lip blush is semi-transparent, the final healed color is always a blend of the pigment and your natural lip color. This allows the result to look soft, natural, and harmonious with your features.
Lip blush is designed to act as a soft base color, meaning you can still wear lipstick, gloss, or liner anytime you want to change your look.
The goal is for your lips to heal looking like naturally healthy, youthful lips — even without makeup.
Preparing for Your Appointment
Healthy, hydrated lips make a significant difference in both the procedure and pigment retention.
Before your appointment:
• Begin hydrating your lips daily (Lips must not be dry at your appointment. If they are dry or cracked, the appointment must be rescheduled and the deposit is forfeited.)
-
Exfoliate 3 days prior using a gentle lip scrub (or honey + brown sugar) to remove dead skin.
• Use lip masks or lip balms regularly
• Avoid arriving with dry or chapped lips
If you have ever experienced a cold sore — even many years ago — antiviral medication is required before your appointment. Lip blush can sometimes trigger dormant viruses, even in clients who have not had an outbreak in years.
Some common preventative options include:
• L-lysine supplements to support the immune system
• Valtrex, typically taken for 4 days (the day of the procedure and three days after)
If you have a history of cold sores, please consult your physician before your appointment for the best option.
Healing & Aftercare
Swelling is expected immediately after the procedure, and lips may feel dry or tight for 3–7 days during healing.
This can feel more noticeable during colder months or when indoor heating is used.
Consistent aftercare is key:
• Stay hydrated
• Keep lips moisturized with the recommended ointment
• Avoid picking or peeling the lips
With proper healing, your lips will gradually soften into a beautiful, natural tint that looks effortlessly polished around the clock.
As your lips heal, the color will naturally soften. Within the first week, your body will begin absorbing some of the pigment while gently releasing the excess through the healing process.
Over the following 4–8 weeks, the color can lighten by 40% to 60%, gradually settling into a softer, more natural tone. During this stage, it’s completely normal to see slight patchiness or areas where pigment healed lighter, as every part of the lips retains pigment a little differently.
This is why a follow up session is scheduled 5–8 weeks after your initial appointment. By this time, your lips will be fully healed, allowing your artist to see how your skin has responded to the pigment.
At this appointment, we can refine the color, reinforce areas where pigment healed lighter, and make any small adjustments needed to achieve the most balanced and natural-looking result.
For some clients, especially those undergoing lip neutralization, additional sessions may be recommended to gradually build the final color.
The healing period between appointments also gives you time to live with your new lips and decide if you’d like the color slightly deeper or more defined at your follow-up.
